Mind to update this a little bit? Dark Souls 2 and The Phantom Pain are missing, along with a couple of other games like Killzone Shadow Fall that, even though it has an optional 30 FPS lock, the unlocked framerate setting is still technically 60 FPS. Although you could add this separately.
ReplyDeleteHey thanks for the feedback. I updated the list. As for the Killzone shadowfall the devs clarified that the fps is not locked at 60 fps in either mode.
DeleteNone of the games are "locked" at 60 FPS and rather they're optimized to run at that, it just runs V-sync which doesn't cap anything. Killzone SF can be locked at 30 FPS, but if you unlock the framerate it is basically a 1080p 60FPS game, even though the framerate fluctuates a lot. Anyway it's not a big deal to argue about that. I'm glad you answered anyway and I will be more than happy to help you on updating this list. I think that next-gen consoles have no excuse to run at anything lower than 1080p 60FPS, because MGS5 clearly proven that a console has more value by itself when it has everything maxed out than when everything runs at a mediocre mid setting at 900p 30FPS as in the case with Watch Dogs. It makes a console have less "value". What I mean is that a person can play Watch Dogs for example with a $450 custom build PC at 1080p 60FPS on maximum, and if they try to play MGS5 on everything maxed out except 4K it will run the same graphically and technically than the PS4, which gives the latter more value since the PS4 is $400 and has a HDMI cable, a controller, power cables and a blu-ray driver, while on PC you have to buy everything yourself.

Resident Evil 4 should be out within the next few months, and it's a safe assumption that it will be 60fps as well, but we'll see.
Back to Saints Row. I mentioned earlier that the frames drop, and if it is 60fps, it doesn't feel like it. It does hit 60fps, but rides everywhere between 30-60 in a radical manner, so I don't know if that one counts or not.

DeleteI am going to reveal a channel I've found recently. It's called "DigitalFoundry" and they show Xbox One and PS4 titles being shown in 60fps (it doesn't give resolution numbers, but PS4 runs in 1080p at all times anyway, sorry Xbox!)

ReplyDeleteIf you're looking to add PS4 Pro games to this list, I would suggest adding a "PS4 Pro Exclusive" section.
As for the game...
PS4 Pro Lite settings (arguably the best one) runs the game at 1080p at a smooth 60fps.
PS4 Pro High settings run the game in 4k at around 30fps.
PS4 regular edition runs the game at 1080p at around 30fps.
Xbox One runs the game in 900p at a somewhat smooth 30fps, for those who may be interested.
I should also add, the only games that have come close to 4K 60fps would be Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare remastered. Surprisingly enough, the PS4 Pro version handles the framerate far better in 4K on PS4 Pro than the frame rate for PS4 at 1080p.
However, I should mention that Infinite Warfare/Modern Warfare aren't actually in a native 4K. It's actually somewhere around 2,800 pixels on the screen.
No plans to add PS4 pro games this time :). may be later

ReplyDeleteI checked DF's frame test and was disappointed it was locked at 30fps. However, after purchasing the game today, I quickly realized there's a rendering mode in video options. You have "1080 at 60fps" and "1080 at 30fps" options. I've got mine at 60 and it feels like a locked 60, not some juttery mess.

Hey, I was looking over the list and I didn't see the Bioshock Collection. It's a remaster, It's definitely in 60fps, is it because of the resolution maybe? I'm not 100% sure.
ReplyDeleteIt runs 1080P. But there's performance issues. Bioshock 1 runs fine.In Bioshock 2 fps drops during heavy scenes and in infinite, major performance issues and more frequent fps drops.
DeleteShadow Warrior 2 sneaked up on the PS Store recently. I'm assuming that game will be just like it's prequel. Keep an eye on it, I'm sure DF will be doing a performance test on it soon. It's only $40 USD too, nice!

ReplyDeleteIt's a safe assumption that a console as powerful as the PS4 could run the same game in 60fps as well. However, I can't find any actual frame data on YouTube. I did find a list on there called "PS4 60fps games Part 1-3" and it mentioned Shovel Knight, but no frame data like DF's.
I've played it today and it feels like a locked 30fps or 60fps. With 3D games I have no problem seeing the difference, but with this one it's too hard for my eyes to tell.
If 3DS can handle it 60fps. then PS4 could surely handle it. It must be 60 fps plus it seems not demanding

Thanks so much man, this is a very helpful resource. And it's nice to see it updated so frequently. I do think that you should consider adding some more of the games that use dynamic res like Titanfall 2 though, as long as they hit 1080/60 and don't dip below 900p. A game like DiRT 4 is similar to TF2 in that respect but it's kind of hard to draw the line btwn them so might as well include em all!

DeleteAlso mate i really think this list should be 60fps games on PS4 only, it doesn't need to be 1080p aswell many games had to go 900p for a more stable 60fps especially if the visuals in that game is more taxing too hope you reconsider cheers
ReplyDeleteYes i know it's pointless to just list 1080p 60fps games only. especially when 900p 60 fps and 1080p 60fps is hardly distinguishable. But the list started as a curiosity post haha. I'll try to add 900P 60FPS games in a separate section from now.

DeleteIt’s been a while. I upgraded to a PS4 Pro recently so without a list for that, I’m really not going to be much use here anymore. I’ll try to keep an eye on regular PS4 games too.
ReplyDeleteWith that said, I highly recommend anyone who cares about the smoothness of their game to upgrade to a pro. There are only a few games affected by frame rate in a harsher way, Skyrim being one of them.
Frankly I’m tired of seeing games claiming 60fps when really, it’s running around the 50-60 range. I’ve got hawk eyes and a large tv and it hurts my eyes to look at some of these games when they stutter.
So I went to DigitalFoundry and did some digging. My main source is from there, but I’ve also double checked other frame testers on a few games and excluded any framerate-problem games.
So I’ve come up with a list of games that are locked at 60fps (no stuttering) on PS4 Pro. The only exception I’ve allowed is a very occasional 1-2 fps drop (and cutscenes could get away with it because you’re not actually playing) So you can take the information I’ve gathered and use it toward these lists if you want, or you can ignore it, it’s up to you. I’ve done the homework. So at least someone can read it if they’re interested.
I tuned my PS4 Pro to run at 1080p Mode. For the most smoothness, I’d recommend anyone to do the same. It depends on the game, really. Also, this only applies if you have a 60hz screen, naturally.
Note: Seeing the * symbol will mean it’s also locked 60fps on normal PS4 as well.

...I may have missed some. 2D titles aren’t really my favorite and they’re difficult to tell what resolution and frame rate they are.

DeleteThat would be awesome to add pro games as well! As far as I’m concerned, this website is my definitive place for looking up 60fps games on PS4, regardless of resolution. I’ll try to confirm the resolutions too of course, just to be thorough in my future work. I’ll also mark which games are locked in 60fps (for the most part) so at least you’ll know what stutters and what’s smooth.
DeleteThe games posted are subject to change through patches and updates. FFXV is currently only available to play in stutters. It used to be a locked 60fps in 1080p mode. I’ll let you know if they ever fix that issue.

A special note on that game “The Surge” just to be super clear, that performance mode is only available on the pro. I don’t think regular PS4 has it.

I’m going to skip games that are previously mentioned in other lists. I’ll stick only to enhancements on the pro, or stick to locking 60fps where the regular PS4 did not.
